NFTs and Environmental Ethics; The Climate Controversy and the Impact of the NFTs

A cogent, explanatory, and argumentative introduction based around the popularity of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and the environmental ethics crisis. In a nutshell, ‘climate change is our most important issue facing mankind today and we are on the edge of extinction. I intend to prove (or disprove) this statement with the NFTs, but herein lies the problem; there is no right solution to this problem. This inspired me to develop my own solution that would benefit everyone involved in this delicate environment we call earth; my backup plan if you will.

The number of non-fungible tokens ( NFTs ) is on the rise. In fact, they just might be the future of gaming digital collectibles. The problems facing these digital assets however are not limited to the digital world. In fact, they may have a concrete impact on our physical environment.

Blockchain and decentralization are considered to be green technologies because they can provide economic efficiencies in multiple verticals (such as energy, transportation, and blockchain infrastructure ) while also producing less waste and having lower CO2 emissions. One of the first environmentally-friendly blockchain assets is the NFT (Non-Fungible Token) called CryptoKitties. It is a unique digital asset made for collecting, buying, and selling that you can purchase for $10 each.

While it is true that blockchain technology and its ability to solve problems efficiently and create solutions to issues we are currently facing has been given prominence, the environmental impact of these new-entry technologies must be given their due concern. How long do you think our planet will sustain under this kind of pressure?

For more than 25 years, the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) at the United Nations have sought to establish binding limits on human economic activity and a legal framework for regulating consumption in an effort to increase “Global Sustainability” — a process by which industrialized nations will agree to severely limit economic activity and consumption of natural resources in order to reduce their impact on the environment. They are working toward this end through recognizing the rights of nature in international law to establish what they consider to be more politically sustainable agreements [such as Agenda 21 and The Law of the Sea Treaty].

Controversial and exciting, the concept of a digital, non-fungible token is gaining the attention of many people already in the blockchain space. With so many tokens already supporting ERC-721 and plans for others to be released soon, there’s little doubt that this will become the standard in blockchain technology. However, there is also a dark side to this. We are quickly running out of resources as we all know this is true; what may not be as apparent is that we are at risk of extinction because of our self-destructive nature. I aim to break this down with the NFTs and explain why they can help save us.

I’m going to convince you that your most important possession is your favorite smartphone and that you should protect it from the environmental ethics crisis happening all over the world. I’ll show you what NFTs are, how they could be used for the solution, and how you could possibly benefit from them.

For the past hundred years, humankind has been using coal in a very irresponsible manner. This led to the occurrence of ‘climate change, which threatens our existence on this planet. We are in danger of extinction and will perish if we continue to use coal in such an inefficient manner. The perfect solution would be if we had a universal currency that could be used not only as an economical tool but also to help us decrease the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere. However, there is no perfect currency. Any currency would lead to bad situations, even if it is an environmentally friendly one.

Non-Fungible Tokens are the most important asset class since the first use of cryptocurrency.

An Introduction to non-fungible tokens (NFTs): What they are and why they’re so important.

Fungible tokens have been the key to digital trading economies since their creation on Counterparty. Now enter Non-Fungible Tokens. An NFT is a token so unique that it holds value in and of itself, similar to art or collectibles being irreplaceable.

I propose we use crypto to purchase forestland in an effort to preserve them and stop the destruction of our environment.

If you feel down about what you’ve done for the environment, here is a new and innovative way to improve.

It’s a debate that has plagued philosophers for centuries. Climate change is having devastating effects on our planet and the range of species it supports. Now, more than ever before, we need to understand the impacts of human-induced actions on the enviornment. With over six billion people in this world and rising, the pressure on resources and the environment will only grow. We are rapidly approaching a point that could result in irreversible damage to our home, planet earth.

I intend to create a solution to climate change (The biggest problem facing humanity) that has a significant global impact. I believe NFTs will be the next financial revolution, but this can only be achieved if the environmental standards and ethics used in the manufacturing of NFTs is up to scratch.

There is an ethical catastrophe going on in this world. Most importantly, in our day-to-day lives, we now have a voice to protect ourselves from this crisis. This voice lies within the Ethereum platform known as NFTs. Since their invention, the most burning questions concerning these tokens have never been if or how this solution can benefit us, but rather who should be given these vast amounts of funds?

Most blockchain people know, I’m all about helping people. A good coin should be: a) easy to use, b) hard to lose and c) help the earth. However, when we discuss environmental issues, there isn’t a perfect solution or argument for any individual so I propose creating a platform that everyone cooperates on. But who is everyone? How do we gather all these different groups of people together in one place to create a better living environment?

How can we save the earth from destruction? (Thesis Statement) Most people think that carbon taxes and expensive electric cars are the only way to save our planet. Many of us don’t want to be taxed more, paying more money for a Lexus SUV when we already have one in the driveway. I propose a new solution: decentralized communities to live off the land, farming and raising animals and trading with each other on a small scale, bartering everything back-and-forth, and living in harmony with each other and nature.

The CryptoKitties craze is exactly what the blockchain community needs.

When burning fossil fuels, energy escapes into the atmosphere, causing the greenhouse effect and ozone depletion. A Lexus SUV can get twice as much oil or coal burned when driven until its wheels are worn. We will save our planet by living off the land, farming and raising animals with solar panels to harness solar energy and creating small-scale decentralized communities where we can barter everything back-and-forth.

As a matter of fact, we are going to do this.

NFTs are here to stay.

They are not going anywhere.

So, instead of trying to eliminate them, let’s use them to our advantage.

Let’s use them to save the planet.

Let’s use NFTs to slow down and eventually stop climate change.

I challenge readers to consider a new solution for living on our planet without damaging it further: decentralized communities that live off the land, putting pressure on non-sustainable industries, supporting influencers, and even investing money into climate tech startups can be very beneficial.

In the next few months, I will release more information on an NFT collection that is going to do exactly that!

Stay tuned!
